a Triumvirate of 10"s

Damad/Meatjack split 10" 2000, At A Loss Records

This plate right here has been a big deal, these two bands represented all that was was super heavy and weird at one time here in the South, and shared the stage together lots of times while I was a high schooler back home.Totally rips. Damad straight wrecked the US for many years and their uniqueness and the way they shredded put Savannah on the map, paving the way for all the bands everyones heard of from there today. They were incredible- one of the heaviest, slowest, most witchy and creepy bands ever, and this 10" has some of their best material on it. The Meatjack side is great too but I am incredibly biased- Damad ruled. R.I.P. Brian + Morrow.

Rudimentary Peni Archaic EP 10" 2003, Outer Himalayan Records
The great Rudimentary Peni, one of the strangest and most respected/confusing/totally over your head bands ever. Though is is one of their most recent releases, this band goes back to the beginnings of UK punk and their records Death Church and Cacophony and EPs of RP are some of the most wicked records ever made. These words only subtract from the ill legend or whatever that they have been and are. Though this 10" is not their best work at all, the songs on it are contagious and it rules. This band is true artwork, and since this is a 10" of theirs it had to be on my list just because.

Fields of Shit 10" 1996, Life is Abuse Records

This is the first 10" that I acquired, it has always ruled and still does. These guys were a short lived Bay Area band that had some dudes from Filth in it. Their crust thrash attack was, at a time, the nastiest thing I'd ever heard. So anyways these days I like thinking about back then and shit and so this 10" strait kills it. And within it I saw a thing for a Dystopia record and was like, who is Dystopia? And then found out about them so you know I have to prop Fields of Shit for that at least.

記録 :日本の本格的な殺害すべて

Crude Immortality LP 2003, Deranged Records
Crude fucking rule and I reviewed their Attitude LP last year but this is so ripping as its own thing that I had to put it on here. Their Japanese Hardcore lightning straight smashes your head over and over, this is a collection of the bands favorite material over the years and so every song rages. Hard to imagine more energetic hardcore, harder to imagine what to put on the turntable after this beast finishes destroying shit. These guys have their own place in tearing shit up, the light speed drums and blistering bass let the dude straight shred flaming guitar solos all over it constantly, so wicked. My homeboy just let me 'hold onto' this because he lives in China and his collection is straight collecting dust. 粗野な規則!

Bastard No Hope in Here LP 199?, Bastard Records
This shit is so wicked that I find it hard not to jump out the window when it is on full blast. Bastard were from the early 90s and they fucking ripped that ugly furious style of Japanese Hardcore, sort of like Crow and Deathside, that straight nasty mean shit, really metal. This is sort of like the mean version of the Crude review above, these guys ripped through violent vicious maniac 2 minute attacks, where as Crude was more of the 3 and a half minute, positive message anthem thing. This is their Controlled in the Frame EP (1989) and the Wind of Pain LP(1990) on it, both slay so hard. Bastard sounds sort of like the British crust band Doom, if they were Japanese, if I can get away with that. Japanese electrocution style beating your ass.

TWO RECORDS THAT SLAY

1349 Revelations of the Black Flame LP 2009, Candlelight Records

This is the new 1349, a hard to handle LP that takes a while to know, and it definitely rules, many great records take a long ass time to get to where they are-a rad thing. Their fifth LP, Revelations of the Black Flame is a strange, heavy Black Metal record that is way more bleak and dark than their earlier LPs. On those, 1349 earned their keep as the craziest and fastest Black Metal band known for pulverizing some shit, and Vice did a thing on them and anyways everybody knew them to be so fucking fast and evil and have the most incredibly mind-blurring drummer ever, Frost from Satyricon. So then this new one is highly anticipated and shit and is released- and light speed Black Metal is expected, but what the fuck? Is this 1349? The slow, scary and really noisy movements on here are many. This is such a rad LP, and the darkness and wickedness on it is remarkably potent. It even has scary pianos on it. They do straight grind some shit out sometimes but it is a far more atmospheric listen than anything they've put out before. It slays, its a slayer. And a pretty wicked cover of 'Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun.'

Peanut Butter Wolf Chrome Children mix 2006, Stones Throw/Adult Swim

Chrome Children is such a great mix, its been bangin for years and still rules. Peanut Butter Wolf always delivers, and this one straight slays. So many ill beats from he and Madlib, the late J Dilla is on it, Oh No, and lots of others. There are bangers on here and there are instrumentals, overall a solid fucking mix that is great over and over. And they of course talk about weed all stuff all over it because Madlib and them are the shit. After this one they came out with Chrome Children II, which listened more like an album but was wicked also. They're both great but I like this one a lot more cause that shit bumps mane, and plus there's a Gary Wilson song on here, check his record out you will be blown away.
