Banned In D.C.

Sorry my post is late. I have been recovering from our whirlwind trip to and from D.C. Those 48 hrs encompassed the most patriotic and exciting sports trip of any of our lives. None of the eight in attendance had ever witnessed a US MNT game in person so we were all delirious after this World Cup Qualifier - US v. Cuba.

USA 6 - 1 Cuba

We destroyed communism at RFK Stadium. While we were held to a 1-0 winning result in Havana this game had a very different scoreline due to the US scoring 2 goals in the first half and then scoring 4 goals in the second half. Here are the highlights watch them:

During the game we never stopped singing and chanting. At halftime everyone emptied into the hallways of RFK stadium where one of the local firms La Barra Brava lead a drum circle, and this wasn't some crunchy hippy drum circle:

(In this video I'm the guy stumbling around the bottom right corner of the screen in a white and gray US jersey with my US scarf held high.)

During the second half we witnessed Jozy Altidore (Villareal C.F./Spain) score his first goal for the US-MNT, we saw Jose Francisco Torres (Pachuca/Mexico) make his first appearance/cap for the national team, and we screamed until our throats bled when Freddy Adu (AS Monaco/France) entered the game and crossed the ball to Oneywu (Standard Liege/Belgium) to score the sixth and final goal.

After this win over Cuba the US-MNT clinched their group and will advance to the next round. Also, the morning after the game two players on the 18 man Cuba roster defected into the US and haven't been seen since. I guess our team kicked their ass so bad they wanted to jump ship and come play for us. That's pretty ill.
